Hoop Rom Market + Damnoen Floating Market (Half Day Tour)

This market is known as the "Hoop Rom Market" because its stalls are built on the Maeklong-Ban Laem railway line, a short railway line running between Mahachai and Maeklong. Vendors use umbrellas or tarpaulins for shade, which extend onto the railway tracks where tourists walk and shop. When the train signal sounds, chaos ensues. Vendors quickly fold up their umbrellas and tarpaulins, and remove any goods obstructing the tracks. Once the train has passed, they set up their umbrellas and tarpaulins again and return their goods to their original locations beside the tracks. This is why the market is called the "Hoop Rom Market." While this is normal for the vendors and locals, it's not always exciting or amusing for tourists. This umbrella-folding event occurs eight times a day, coinciding with the train departures from Mahachai to Maeklong and back.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market is a century-old floating market in Thailand, renowned internationally. It's part of Ratchaburi's motto: "Beautiful women of Photharam, lovely women of Ban Pong, the city of earthenware and dragons, Wat Khonon, stunning caves, Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, the fascinating Bat Cave, and the area known for its delicious fish." Located in Ratchaburi Province, it also connects to Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram provinces, facilitating easy travel between these provinces. The market operates from 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM, offering a wide variety of food, household goods, souvenirs, and handicrafts, popular with foreign tourists. It's a magical floating market that reflects a genuine way of life. Vendors still bring fruits from their own orchards or source them from elsewhere. While some things have changed, it retains a charming aspect of the local way of life that is worth experiencing.

River Kwai Bridge and The Death Railway + Lunch

The Bridge over the River Kwai was built during World War II as part of a Japanese railway line from Nong Pla Duk Junction Station in Ban Pong District, Ratchaburi Province, Thailand, to Thanbyuzayat, Burma. The construction of this railway line required crossing bridges over deep and fast-flowing rivers in some areas.

The Japanese army chose to build the bridge over the Kwai Noi River at Ban Tha Makham (then known as Ban Tha Ma Kham), Tha Makham Subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi District, because the soil underneath was denser. Initially, a temporary wooden bridge was built 100 meters away from the current bridge, taking three months to construct. Later, a permanent iron bridge was built using iron imported from Malaya, with the rails laid by British prisoners of war. The bridge is 300 meters long, divided into 11 sections with concrete piers. It was officially opened on December 25, 1943. However, in November 1944, during the war, the Bridge over the River Kwai was heavily bombed by Allied airstrikes, causing the central section to collapse. Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945.
